Who do you look up to?

Anyone that is trying to do their bit for the planet or for the world. It could even be if they're looking after their Nan and taking her a sandwich on a Sunday, you know? Anyone that goes out of their way to help, I think, "You're for me."

My all-time favorites are William Eggleston, and Viviane Sassen, who's like the godmother of all the shit that’s going on right now, and Clayton Patterson, whose documentary stuff is insane. Jamel Shabazz, Carrie Mae Weems, LaToya Ruby Frazier, James Van Der Zee, you put those all together and you have seven very different photographers, but you'll see that thread in what I'm doing. Right now, you can see people picking up phone cameras, you see fashion images looking more documentary, less slicked-up, greasy, sexy imagery, and you're seeing more female photographers, you're seeing more people of color photographers, and it's beautiful.

Who do you look up to and why?

It’s hard to name one person, but I’ve always admired all of the artists in my life. Anyone who is willing to be vulnerable and put themselves out there has a lot of respect in my book. People who create for themselves before anyone else.

Who are your favorite writers?

So many! Caity Weaver’s profiles at GQ are iconic. Everyone at The Cut is really smart, and I think what they do with the news is hilarious. Plus, thank god they now have Cathy Horyn. I read Molly Young’s work in college and just wanted her life. Jia Tolentino at The New Yorker has the best takes. Doreen St. Felix is going places, fast. I'm also into menswear, so I read all the menswear reviews. I love Matthew Schneier at The Times, and Jon Caramanica is the top dog of music journalism.

Do you have any favorite writers that you look up to?

I love Cathy Horyn, which sounds biased because she writes for us but she's super blunt and smart and doesn't hold back even when it comes off as maybe a little rude. All of her fashion writing is worth reading for sure.

Who are your favorite photographers?

There are so many, but I really love David Sims.

Who do you look up to?

I’ve always wanted to be Grace Coddington, yeah definitely Grace.

I love her life story and her work speaks for itself. My mom went to her book signing for me when I was in school, and got her to sign a little postcard saying “To Natalie, Sorry I missed you. XO Grace” and it’s my prized possession.

Who do you look up to?

Diana Vreeland for sure. I think the really cool thing about her is that she got the whole you can’t buy style, fashion is attainable for anyone. She also appreciated beauty in everything as opposed to trends.

Is the Why Don’t You column on your site inspired by her?

It is, it is.

I also really look up to people who use their position or influence for good, like model Adwoa Aboah. She started Gurls Talk which is a small community focused on providing a space for girls to discuss issues that perhaps they don’t feel comfortable discussing. I think it’s really cool to front something like Gurls Talk as opposed to fronting a brand.

Who do you look up to?

This is so cliché, but my mom. She’s raised all of us while having a full time job so I feel like I can’t really complain about anything really… It was great for me to see that because she's such a strong, independent female in my life.

Who are your favorite writers?

That's a tough one. I really like our writers, obviously. I really like Emily Nussbaum at the New Yorker. She just won a Pulitzer, which is very exciting because I've been reading her for a while. She's a TV critic. I love TV. Oh my God, I love TV I watch so much TV.

Who do you look up to?

Georgina Graham has been a real mentor to me and is also a good friend; I look up to her in every way. She’s given me a thorough grounding within the makeup industry and taught me how to keep a cool head in a stressful situation.

Georgina Graham, Tom Pecheux, Inge Grognard, and Diane Kendal.

Favorite stylists?

There are so many talented amazing stylists out there at the moment. I love Maarten Van Der Horst, Anders Soelvsten Thomsen, Vanessa Reid.

Carine [Roitfeld], Robbie Spencer, Olivier Rizzo, Camilla Nickerson, and Grace Coddington.

Who do you look up to?

Carine. It's an honor to get to work with her all the time and be on set with her and she's so nurturing and she lets me try so many things. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't, but when it works she's always the first person to say congratulations on that idea or she's always the first person to say, "That's so smart." I think working with her, I see myself change. I see my ways of thinking grow and develop and become so much more like her in a way. It's kind of really weird to think that I'm learning from this woman who I was watching her documentary in my house before I even thought that I could work at CR and now I'm here. Now I'm on set with her and she's telling me, "Oh that's great that you put that light blue shirt with that red because that's exactly why Gucci was so popular when I worked with Tom Ford and Mario Testino back then." It's crazy to hear that from somebody who's such an icon. I think we all look up to her.

I also look up to my parents all the time. Everything I do, I do for my parents to make them happy and proud and they're so proud of me. My aunt too. They all helped me get to this point.

Who are your favorite photographers?

At the moment one of my favourites is Mark Peckmezian, we just shot with him in Paris for Dazed. He's Canadian as well, so there’s a personal connection.

Then also in Kiev, we were shooting with this duo called Max and Patrick. I love their work because they're all about the street casting and also the unexpected locations. I think my favorite fashion photographer of all time though is David Sims. His 90’s work is incredible, but also his work now - especially with Arena Homme Plus. I hope that I get to meet him one day.

Who do you look up to?

One woman I look up to is Agata Belcen. She’s the senior fashion editor at AnOther Magazine, and she’s just a really cool woman. She's got incredible taste.

She's calm and confident, super intelligent, and an amazing stylist. Before all of her shoots, she researches them to death. She will find out everything about whatever she's trying to portray so it always seems very authentic, she knows what she’s talking about.

Who do you look up to?

I feel like I'm growing up every day with all the people I'm surrounded by. All my friends are very creative. They're inspiring me and in a way they're building me.

Who are your favorite stylists?

I love Marie-Amelie Sauvé and Melanie Ward. They’ve brought so much to this industry.

Who do you look up to?

My mom! She was a teenage mother, is a breast cancer survivor, and has stood by my side since day one and encouraged me to follow my dreams. We are complete opposites, but she has this super warm spirit that I can only dream of having. She is an angel!!

In the fashion industry, Camilla Johnson-Hill. She is a producer and casting director. I love the work that she does! She owns her own production company based out of London. Seems like a pretty cool chick! I would love to be my own boss someday.

Who are your favorite designers right now?

Right now, I have a great love for J.W. Anderson; I have for a while now. I love everything that he does, menswear and women's wear. I think he pushes things out of where they have been and really progresses things each season. I also love Dries Van Noten’s menswear. I think there is such a richness to that brand, even their fabric manipulations; it is just a luxury that is starting to disappear from other brands. I think it is really still strong there.
